Seed Potatoes
We source our seed potatoes from Skea Organics in Auchterhouse, near Dundee. Scotland is a traditional producer of seed potatoes because the cooler summer temperatures are not favourable for aphids which transmit viruses. In addition many of the seed crops are grown at altitudes up to 200m above sea level - again cooler and less prone to aphid-spread disease. The seed potatoes are grown in rotations of no less than 7 years with often 10 or 12 year between potato crops. This helps to minimize the soil-borne diseases. We have selected varieties we have grown ourselves and/or those that done well in independent NIAB trials. They will be dispatched in a single batch during February (date will be confirmed). All varieties available now in both 1kg and 2.5kg nets:
- A 1kg net contains about 13 tubers - enough for about 4 square metres (5 square yards)
- A 2.5kg net contains about 32 tubers - enough for about 10 square metres (12.5 square yards)
In addition to these varieties, we also have a Potato Collection which includes Arran Victory, Swift and Charlotte ~ Speciality Potato Collection. Postage is only calculated automatically up to 25kg, if you want more, please call for us to arrange.
